Microneedling - My Kitsch Micro Derma Roller and Ice Roller →
So at the beginning of Quarantine, I realized I was going to need to make myself feel at home. See, I live in Los Angeles and came home to Houston at the beginning in March. I thought I was going to be here for quarantine for a month… I was wrong. LOL. NOW IT’S AUGUST. AWESOME. I didn’t think to bring my microneedler and after a month, I knew I was going to need some sense of my regular routine.
They had a great special for Mother’s Day, so ended up getting my mom and sisters the Micro Derma Roller and Ice Roller! And of course, one for myself.
The Micro Derma Roller for me is essential for skincare. Y’all know I’m a skincare junkie and will try any serum or face oil claiming to keep me young and beautiful. To make them more effective, I started microneedling about a year ago. I had purchased one from a discount store which worked well, but decided to treat myself to one a bit more reliable from Kitsch and I love it!
What is it? How do I use it?
If you don’t know, Microneedling can be done at a dermatologists office, but you can also use these gentle tools at home. They use the larger needles, and technically, Dermarolling is what you can do at home. Start once a week, then you can build up to twice a week if you feel your skin can handle it. It should not be painful, but is slightly uncomfortable. This roller has 540 Titanium .25mm needles, so it’s durable and easy to sanitize before and after use. I do not recommend you share this, even with a family member. Best to each have your own. Kitsch always has amazing deals, so it’s easy to get one for you and a loved one!
Don’t apply too much pressure, you don’t need to press into the skin. I have super sensitive skin so usually do once a week, twice max. I go up and down, horizontally and make X-shaped stripes across my face after properly cleansing. I am very light handed around the eye area. There are lots of videos on YouTube how to properly roll. I would not suggest this if you have an active pimple or acne, but please consult your dermatologist if this treatment is right for you. I’ve never experienced bleeding, and if you do, you might be applying too much pressure.
Dermarolling helps open up “micro channels” into the skin. It kind of works like this, and sorry for the visual: think of it like a meat tenderizer. You know how you pound meat to allow the marinade to sink in? That’s kind of the same idea. You’re tenderizing your skin — one, to allow your serums to sink in and be more effective and two, to get so many more benefits!
What kind of benefits?!
It helps with fine lines, pores, wrinkles, and overtime may help scarring. I swear my skin is much more even and pores are much smaller!
It stimulates collagen production! Did you know collagen starts depleting naturally from our bodies at the age of 25 and we don’t make it naturally so need supplements, and a little microneedler can help your body regenerate it on it’s own?! You know how when you get a cut, your body goes into healing mode? That’s the same for the microneedler. You’re making teeny-tiny, little punctures that stimulate your skin into regenerating itself, so you’re growing new, fresh skin!
If used consistently and consciously (gently) overtime, I swear, you will see a difference in your skin texture and how effective your skincare products are! I’m not a dermatologist or esthetician, so clinically cannot make these claims, but this product has worked me.
Be sure to take extra care while your skin recovers!
I also plan out my days of when I’m going to be microneedling. It leaves my skin raw, you’re breaking your skin down, so I avoid the sun for the next one or two days so if I’m going for a walk or a hike (I miss Fryman!), I be sure to microneedle AFTER and let my skin rest. I also try not to wear makeup the following day to let my skin breathe and recover. SPF is crucial at this point! And I’m always sure to hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Just like exercising your body, you’re exercising your skin — so I make sure to hydrate even more. I even started treating myself to collagen water. :)
Here is a full article on Healthline about proper aftercare — like avoiding the sun for two weeks, certain serums to avoid (VitaminC and Rentinol!), avoiding makeup for 24 hours, even postponing intense workouts for a few days, too. GOOD TO KNOW!
I also treated myself to the bundle with their Ice Roller. I LOVE. Ice rolling is different in that you freeze this roller and the surgical stainless steel cools your skin, shrinks pores and improves blood circulation and lymphatic drainage. I use it just about every morning! Y’all may have seen the post, the family that rolls together, stays together! It instantly wakes me up, I feel refreshed and see a visible difference in my skin in that it’s brighter, my under eye circles are helped and my face is visibly less “puffy” from rolling the fluid out. It’s great to cool down your skin the morning after mirconeedling and after a workout.
Head over to this link and check out their awesome selection of skincare tools and their adorable hair accessories! I’ve been wearing their black and ivory scrunchies all of quarantine and LOVE how instantly chic it makes any outfit with a high or low bun.
I hope you enjoyed this post. I know it’s something a little different and can feel a little scary (I know, needles!) but honestly, it’s stimulating and refreshing and I feel like I’m taking an active and natural step in my self-care routine. I’m pro-longing the need for botox as long as I can and feel like this is working for me!!
I wish you and your family and friends health, safety and abundance.
