Date Night Glam -- Southern Gal in SoCal; A Series
Who says date night has to be with your significant other?! Take yourself on a sister or bff date and feel your best! Went out with my sister to take my nephew to prom last weekend. We’re so proud of him and so glad he was able to experience this rite of passage with his friends, he had such a good time! In the interim before picking up at midnight before he turned into a pumpkin, we went to a few Houston spots to get our fill of queso and margaritas. We were also able to go support my cousin at her pop up for her clothing brand, Blessings. What a fun, family-filled weekend!
So, since I was going to be hanging out with some supe smart Gen Z kids for pictures, I felt the pressure to look young and hip. I know I’m a millennial and I was ready to be attacked for my skinny jeans and side part, but I wore them bravely to the Rice University campus, filled with tons of Gen Z prom kids… but not a single one of them made fun of my skinny jeans so I think there’s def a myth re: Gen Z and their disdain for us. Also, they didn’t say it to my face, so I’m just gonna go with they liked me.

DATE NIGHT MAKEUP MUSTS
I love keeping my skin soft and fresh, with a bright flush blush reminiscent of a sun burn, a soft pink lip, ivory/pearl cool toned highlighters and shadows, a strong brow and tons of lashes.
Brightening Youth Glow - Colour Correcting Face Primer | Charlotte Tilbury
I love this primer! It hydrates, smoothes, illuminates and keeps my foundation looking flawless — even in the Houston heat. This works great under any foundation and can be set with any powder.
CC+ Cream Illumination with SPF 50+
Y’all know my love for IT!Cosmetics is real. I can wear this day to night and hardly have to touch up. It gives incredible coverage, looks great in person (I tend to steer away from this illuminating one on-camera), and wears throughout the day. And with an SPF 50 coverage, you can’t beat that.
HYNT Beauty Duet Concealer
I don’t have it listed in the photo above, but I have listed it before. I like how hydrating and full coverage it is and it blends out and wears beautifully. I tend to use a larger fluffy brush to apply a very light amount of this since a little goes a long way. And they are certified clean beauty!
Colour Of Passion – Pillow Talk Lip & Cheek Glow | Charlotte Tilbury
Y’all know I love a good blush. I typically like a pretty sunburned look. I’ll never forget when I worked at MAC and I went a little overboard in a good way back in the good ole’ days and one of our national artists came to my counter and said, “you look like those French girls who just came back with the perfect sunburn from Capri.” And my obsession for blush was born. I love any cream blush, and this one is similar to the one I used.
Hello Light Crème™ Anti-Aging Radiance Crème Luminizer
I’ve been using this illuminator for a while and I love it. I place this on my cheek bones and dabbed this along my brow bone, down my nose and on my cupids bow. I gotta keep up with this GenZ kids on TikTok, and I gotta glow in all places. So pretty!
MAC Satin Eyeshadow - Haux (soft muted rosy brown)
This is one of my favorite eye shadows to sculpt my eyes with. It’s a soft, muted blackberry and gives the perfect cool tone that compliments the highlighter and blush.
L'Oreal Voluminous Carbon Black Volume Building Mascara
This is one of my go-to mascaras for myself and my kit. It never fails to give me full, fat, volumized lashes. The first week the mascara is a little thin, and then once a little air gets in the tube, it starts to take on a super creamy buildable formula that I love. So if you have a big event on a Saturday, start using it the week prior to let it get a little volume in the formula. PRO-TIP: Extend the life of your mascara. Don’t pump the wand into the mascara, you’ll get too much air in there and it’ll dry out your mascara more quickly. Instead, use the wand to “scrape” the insides of the tube so you load your mascara all over the wand without over-drying. You’re welcome.
Ardell Glamour Wispies Black Lashes
I love Ardell lashes, and swear by their Wispies. I also have a love-affair with their single and individual flare lashes and swear by them and they’re always in my kit. This style is great for a night out. They’re long, full and fringy and make my eyes huge. They come in different styles and lengths and thicknesses, too! If these are a bit much, trim them in half and use them on the outer corner of your eyes!
Maybelline Total Temptation Eyebrow Definer Pencil
I got this from Influenster who had sent this to me to try and lets just say that was three or four years ago and I’m STILL buying it. It’s that good. It’s comparable to a verrrrry expensive brow sculptor wax pencil I’ve used.
MAC Cosmetics Whirl Lip Pencil
Y’all. I was obsessed with Whirl before Kylie made it famous. Linda made Spice famous. Kylie made Whirl famous. It’s the perfect dusty rose brown to shape your lips and compliment just about any lip shade. I find it works better with cooler tones, like dusty pinks. I’m on a mission myself to make two other lip pencils iconic. Stay tuned.
Pillow Talk - Matte Revolution | Charlotte Tilbury
Thank you, Kelly for introducing me to my obsession. I WENT CRAZY THIS SUMMER WITH CT. I love this lipstick. It’s the perfect nude pink that works on so many skin tones. It wears well, a natural velvet matte, doesn’t feel sticky. It’s one of those lipsticks that take on any lip pencil you pair it with. I also love CT has diverse shades of the Pillow Talk collection to suit any skin tone. It’s just perfect!
SMOCK TOPS 2021
Who knew I would become an adult who loved a smock top. I have collected so many dresses, and now blouses, that feature this once-for-babies-only top. Smock top maxi-dress… perfect for Thanksgiving! I know! You’re welcome.
Smocked Top with Puff sleeves from Shop Lulla Blue in Houston.
They have the cutest store! It’s tucked away in Vintage Park in Spring, Texas just off 249 and Louetta near Tomball/Spring/Cypress area. It’s absolutely southern and sweet and this top is appropriate for a date night or brunch. I was with my mom and she saw the top and said “that top is so you.” Mama knows best. It’s a cute and flattering smocked bus with big balloon sleeves. You can wear it on the shoulder as photographed to be a bit more conservative and how I wore it in my previous Instagram post, or you can wear it off the shoulder. t. I’m about 5’7”, size 10 and got the large and it fits well. Dying for the white! Pair it with some white pants for a fresh brunch look or black jeans like I did for a night out.
Here are some similar tops:

Houston Hair Must Haves
The only thing that works on my hair is a prayer and a margarita to help me not care. Kidding. But also. fI’m no hair expert, but I have fine, curly hair that curls up really quickly, especially when the humidity is high. I left my blow dryer behind when I went to NoLa, for I knew the fate of my curls. They would resist any product. HOWEVER. When I do blow out my hair in Houston, I steal this stuff from my sister and it makes my life so much better.
Wow Dream Coat Anti Humidity Spray
This stuff is greta and is a “mini keratin treatment” and it locks out humidity while it heat protects. Definitely use this prior to blow drying and see the difference.
t3 Singlepass 1/25” Inch Professional Curling Iron
I caved. I got it. AND Y’ALL. It’s worth it.. It’s ceramic, it heats up SO FAST (great when you’re running late! ;)) I do a rough blow-dry and then curl my hair in less than ten minutes and it takes all the frizz out, leaves it smooth and super shiny. I get why all of my bloggers I like have this one. (and p.s., if you shop at CostCo, sometimes they have it there.
So I hope y’all enjoy! I’m finding the time between auditions and writing my screenplays to sit down and create content for y’all whether it’s acting advice (L.A. Confidential), beauty faves (Look The Part Book The Part), outfit ideas (Southern Gal in SoCal) things that make your life easier (working on developing/naming this “series”) and all of these posts makes it easy for you to shop via my blog, but it makes it absolutely easier via the LTK app. I’m honestly so excited and honored and promise to share more things that are authentic and real to me, things I use, things I am working towards, and other ideas that are reflective of me.
